Hilton to open upscale hotel in Germany

Hilton has signed a franchise agreement to open Hilton Heidelberg, an upscale 244-room hotel in downtown Heidelberg.

The property will undergo a major renovation before welcoming guests into Summer 2022.

The hotel is owned by Invesco Real Estate, the global real estate investment manager who acquired the property in 2017.

Our investment program for the Hilton Heidelberg aims for a BREEAM certificate in renovation, thus completing its strategic priority ESG orientation across its entire hotel portfolio.

Heidelberg is a thriving university city steeped in history and famous for its distinctive Gothic architecture. Many large companies are headquartered in the city and Heidelberg has a reputation as one of Europe’s main science hubs and is home to the European Molecular Biology Laboratory.

Hotel guests will be within walking distance of the Baroque Old Town of Heidelberg and the historic Heidelberg Castle. Heidelberg University, founded in the 14th century and the oldest university in Germany, is three kilometers away. When renovated, the hotel will offer 244 elegant rooms and suites, as well as a restaurant, bar and executive lounge. Guests also have access to the hotel’s gym. Meetings and events will be held in the hotel’s seven conference rooms, which will offer over 550 square meters of modern meeting space.

Hilton’s growing European portfolio will welcome around 40 new hotels this year, including new hotels in Düsseldorf, Stuttgart and Constance. Hilton recently opened its first DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Germany in Frankfurt and plans to open the Wasserturm Hotel Cologne, under Curio Collection by Hilton, in September.

Hilton Heidelberg will be part of the award-winning Hilton Honors loyalty program, allowing more than 118 million members who book directly with Hilton to earn points for hotel stays and experiences, as well as instant benefits including check-in contactless with room selection, digital key and Connected Room.

Hilton Heidelberg is part of Invesco Real Estate’s exposure to the European hotel sector, the company’s allocation now represents € 1.3 billion in assets under management in the European hotel sector, comprising 24 hotel investments in six European countries.
